how can you say what other athletes would do. if you watch mma or know anything about it you would know they are just as tough and go into fights with very serious injuries

I don’t understand why Gilbert didn’t attack in the bottom of the climb…They should have started sprinting in the start of the climb. then Cav definetly wouldn’t have won. a pity Hushovd was hindered by a overturning. He could have won. when Matt Goss comes second and Cav wins!!!! then you know you have done something wrong. the lead out should have been done with several hundred metres to go, and then it should have been man against man in the last 4-500 metres…Maybe before that too.

Glad I speak Dutch/Flemish. Best cycling commentary there is. Non Dutch/Flemish speakers are missing something. Live camera work could have been better as it missed Cav’s final move. Replays showed how smart Cav was. Marvelous win!

He started his sprint early, with 200m + to go, and it was slightly uphill too! He certainly was the better sprinter that day.

    – seriously? I’m pretty sure Goss knew where the finish line was. 10 more meters would have meant everyone else would have ridden 10 more meters, which means everyone’s sprint would have finished in 10 more meters, which means it would have been the same.

If you just really like Goss and were smiling and slapping your knee when you said it, my apologies…

Love him to bits!! A phenomenal sportman with a great personality…a real character. A really great boost for British cycling!

Wondrous finish by Cav. Superb race win for the whole GB team who did all the work all day. What a turn by Brad in the closing stages and there’s not enough praise being given (imho) for Dave Millar’s captaincy in a race without radios. His experience and temperament were invaluable. Kudos to all involved.

Well done Cav, surely BBC Sports Personality of the Year ? Or will it be Wayne ‘I cheat on my pregnant wife’ Rooney with prostitutes ? Only 1 winner in my eyes.

wow…thaT Looked to me to be an uphill sprint also! Im glad he won…for me he is the best thing that has happend to sprting since abdujaporave…and what i mean is just amazing physical feats..where he blows past others and has such a physical style..yes there were other sprinters between those generations..but abdu and cav looked best whilst doing it!
